Purpose
During late pregnancy and labor, the average fetal heart rate is between 110 and 160 beats per minute, and can vary five to 25 beats per minute. The fetal heart rate may change as the fetus responds to conditions in the uterus. An abnormal fetal heart rate or pattern may indicate that the fetus is not getting enough oxygen or that there are other problems. This conditions mostly happens due to stress of labor contraction of the abdomen (uterus) of the mother.
Continuous electronic monitoring fetal heart beat and uterine contractions may be used during labor and birth with graphical display of rate and pattern of the fetal heart and uterine contraction of the mother’s abdomen can help rescue a lot of mothers from birth complications and death of children.
Project Description
To design and build an FMS device which will use wireless technology for communication between the transducers placed on pregnant women’s belly and the central device.
The central device will then process the information received and display it graphical enabling medical attendants to continuous observe and monitor the stress status and health of both fetus and mother.

Our main aim of key innovation will be around the sensors, wireless technology used and processor. We will also be aiming at a low cost, low power consuming device with our primary market target being the African health service providers.
